The class has come A LONG WAY since first learning how to add multidigit numbers!
In math we finished up Unit 4 which mainly focused on various strategies to add multidigit numbers. In the below pictures you will see some of the activities we completed such as tiling surface area (a developing skill), playing a double digit addition true or false game, walking around the room with a clipboard and recording sheet to complete I Spy Double Digit Addition, creating a Regroup or Don't Regroup T-Chart on construction paper and sorting the addition problems, playing Versa Tiles, solving Brain Teasers, and creating an ice cream sundae and calculating the total cost.
In Writer's Workshop we are continuing to write All About Books. We learned how to write an introduction. I modeled how to write one using the mentor All About books by Jim Arnosky.
A student example:
Students also created a glossary page for their book.
In science we have been learning about properties of solids.
In Reader's Workshop students have learned how to write a short summary for a book. We worked together to write a summary for the read aloud Mr. Peabody's Apples by first listening to the story, next filling out the SWBS graphic organizer, then writing a paragraph in our reader's notebooks. Students copied the paragraph we generated as a class into their notebooks as a model.
Finally we are getting into the holiday spirit around here. They love to press the button to watch the snowman and penguins sing at the end of the day.
And I'm sure you've heard all about our new "classmate" Snowball who the class caught catching up on his beauty sleep in the tissue box snuggling up with a dinosaur math manipulative Friday morning. Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!
