The morning of our Holiday Party was like any typical morning for us. We found Snowball had some fun with our glitter.
During Reader's Workshop we starting wrapping up our reading unit that focused on identifying the theme or the author's message of a book. We will however continue to focus on this skill during small guided reading groups, since it can be tricky. Additionally we focused on identifying and writing how a character responds to a major event in the story (typically the problem). Since this was the first time completing this type of task we worked together at the rug after reading A Bad Case of Stripes.
On the opposite side of the paper is where students needed to record the message of the story AND how they know. I continue to stress the importance of including evidence from the text to support our thinking. Since this was a skill we have been working on I only provided the class with sentence starters. Then it was their job during Reader's Workshop to complete each sentence. After reviewing the sheets I know who still needs more support in identifying the lesson of the story!
During the Holiday Party, Jordyn's mom read us an adorable story about Jingles the dog.
Next it was time to for the craft. Students decorated a small tote bag.
Then we played hot potato with a blow-up penguin.
And finally limboed!
The Monday before break was our Pajama Party. Students came in to find a treat baggie on their desk and Snowball in our listening center reading holiday stories.
These too were so funny with their matching PJs. They always joke about having the same snack, so of course they came to school in matching pajamas!
Here's a picture of everyone sporting their jammies. Hope you all had a Happy Holiday and New Year!!!
