In Reader's Workshop we have been learning lots about nonfiction reading!
Students learned that good readers learn interesting facts while reading.
Whoops! Forgot to take a picture after I added the word "do" to the main idea!
Good readers also think more about their new learning.
On Wednesday we began learning how to find the main idea of a passage. First we learned strategies to help us identify the main idea. Then I showed multiple choice answers. Once the class figured out the correct main idea we highlighted the supporting details.
Finally students went off and tried out identifying the main idea of a new passage and highlighted the supporting details.
